LUNETTES SELECTION:
THE ULTIMATE ARCHIVE OF EYEWEAR

Seeking out and collecting designer rarities has for a while been the hottest theme in clothes (for those who know) and the Archive Fashion trend is still growing strong. Whether it’s a limited edition Raf Simons bomber jacket, or that Prada print we wish they still made from back in 2000, archival fashion shines the light on some of the best from the past.
And that’s what Lunettes Selection has always done for eyewear. Our Berlin stores are sought out by international collectors and archive builders, film and television costume designers, or those who just appreciate a good eyewear wardrobe of their own. Think of it as…Archive Eyewear. And our archive is never-worn, and always in peak condition.
Archive Fashion isn’t just about collecting (or archiving) historic, pre-owned vintage models. It’s about pinpointing specific pieces from historically significant fashion collections that were very influential for their time The item may have marked a very specific direction in the career of the label or designer, or perhaps was made with notable production techniques. The term is similar to one found in art history — key work — which is often used to denote an artwork that helps us understand an important artist’s development, direction, or thought.
With its archive of unworn vintage eyewear and sunglasses, Lunettes Selection has been the place to go for international eyewear and sunglasses collectors since 2006. Because Lunettes Selection, as the name suggests, does not offer just offer a random mix of vintage eyewear and sunglasses but instead presents a curated selection of key pieces from each era. The special knowledge and care of our eyewear archivists is much appreciated and our expertise attracts international visitors to come from afar to explore our store

This is also the reason why our company has been a resource for design teams from Chloe, Prada, and more for years, who draw inspiration from archive models and incorporate elements of past collections into new designs.
Models from the Y2K era are currently in high demand for our archive visitors. For example, the first collection from IC Berlin (very popular in Asia), and indie classics from Belgian avant-garde brands such as Michel Henau and THEO, all of which are label-free, just like archive fashion collector favorites from the legendary Antwerp Six: Helmut Lang, Ann Demeulemeester, and Bikkembergs.
At Lunettes Selection, Jeremy Scott and his assistant regularly search for early models by eyewear design legend Alain Mikli. A particular highlight of these designs is that the year of each edition is embossed right on the temple. It’s almost as if the Alain Mikli brand was predestined for archive eyewear enthusiasts!
And true collectors always want to know whether a model dates back to an era when the label was still owner-managed and independent. In other words, before a brand was taken over by a large corporation, which often dilutes the design and quality standards. For example, Oliver Peoples frames that were produced in small quantities before the takeover of Luxottica are in demand. Or models from particularly high-quality made-in-Japan editions, such as those from JPG (Jean-Paul Gaultier).
Whether you are an enthusiast building your archive or just need a new pair of special glasses, we look forward to welcoming you to our carefully curated collection of treasures spanning the annals of eyewear.
